I wrote this during lockdown 2020, as part of my Black Isle Correspondent – a series of daily updates from the Massie family home in Fortrose. I cleaned wheelie bins, walked dogs, did local history tours, played the occasional tune and shared it all online. In one episode, I mentioned that I enjoy sending and receiving postcards. Then mail addressed simply to “Anna Massie, Black Isle Correspondent” started arriving. Thank goodness for village posties! The final line of the BIC theme tune was “if you’re feeling grumpy, you’ll find some comp-ny here.” I am forever grateful for the company and craic that came from this unexpected and bittersweet source.
